Donald Trump winced as a military jet soared loudly overhead during the ceremonial welcome for Chinese president Xi Jinping in Maryland. A 100-foot (30 meter) long red carpet was unfurled at the bottom of the aircraft stairs on Wednesday, 23 September for Xi’s arrival. Trump and Xi, along with their spouses, stood beside each other as the national anthem was played and cannons fired in a salute. A military jet then swept loudly overhead, causing Trump to visibly wince while Xi placidly watched the flypast without reacting. Trump was dressed in an overcoat and gloves in the 65-degree weather. The salutation kicks off a three-day visit that's expected to be saturated with pomp, even by White House standards.
