Typhoon Sinlaku was moving north-northwest of the Mariana Islands as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The super typhoon’s central pressure is 925 hectopascals, with a maximum gust wind speed observed of 252 kph, the agency said.
Also known as Typhoon No. 4, it had been heading toward Chichijima island in Tokyo’s Ogasawara Islands, but its projected path has shifted eastward. It is now heading toward the waters near Minami-Torishima island in the Ogasawara Islands.
