Rescue dog saves 13 Venezuela earthquake victims on final mission
A brave rescue dog helped locate at least 13 people buried alive under rubble following a pair of deadly twin earthquakes in Venezuela. Tsunami, a nine-year-old Border Collie with the K-SAR ECID rescue canine unit, has helped sniff out multiple survivors during his final rescue mission before his retirement. Footage shows Tsunami working his way through piles of debris alongside his handler, Jorge Beens. After identifying signs of life amongst the wreckage, rescue teams could then step in to safely remove the survivors. Almost 800 buildings collapsed after the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude quakes struck within 39 seconds of each other on Wednesday (24 June). As of Monday (29 June), at least 1,719 people have been killed.
