Kerala's liabilities top Rs 5 lakh crore; pending dues near Rs 49,000 crore
Kerala faces a severe fiscal challenge. Total outstanding liabilities have surpassed Rs 5.07 lakh crore. Unpaid dues and deferred payments now stand at nearly Rs 49,000 crore. This situation significantly limits the state's capacity for development and infrastructure investment. Salaries, pensions, and interest payments consume a large portion of revenue. Capital expenditure is among the lowest nationally.
