PRETORIA — Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi visited four African countries during the Golden Week holidays, aiming to secure a stable supply of energy resources and critical minerals as well as diversify procurement sources amid the situation in the Middle East. The visit to the Global South emerging and developing countries, which began April 30, is believed to have also been intended to enhance Japan’s presence in Africa, in response to China’s expanding influence in the region.
