Visitors canoe among clusters of white willows that are covered in fresh green leaves and partially submerged in blue water at Lake Shirakawa in Iide, Yamagata Prefecture. The submerged forest appears as meltwater from the surrounding mountains flows into the lake formed by Shirakawa Dam. The high water levels will last until around mid-May, when water begins to be released from the dam.
