The blaze broke out at RAF Fairford in the early hours of Sunday morning, with residents being told to keep their windows closed. Videos and pictures posted on social media appear to show the fire started at a unit on the base with the roof of the building collapsed. Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) said it was responding to a blaze in a commercial building in the Fairford area. RAF Fairford is used by the United States Air Force (USAF) to launch defensive strikes against Iran. Protests have taken place outside the air base in response and around 200 people gathered there on Saturday. Activists held up placards that read ‘no war on Iran’, US out of British bases’ and ‘stop Trump’s deadly war’. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk.
