A Placer County Sheriff’s deputy narrowly escaped being hit by an alleged drunk driver during a hit-and-run crash investigation on Friday night (17 July). The officer was documenting the scene in Loomis at Taylor Road and Horseshoe Bar Road at 10:20pm, with a vehicle involved in the crash pulled over and the three people who were inside standing on the sidewalk. He was on the shoulder documenting the scene when a pickup truck driven by a driver later determined to be under the influence of alcohol came within inches of hitting him as he sideswiped the parked truck, officials said. The deputy jumped out of the way at the last second, and the three people standing nearby were not hurt, the department added. The driver was arrested and booked into the Placer County Jail on multiple charges, including hit and run, DUI, and driving under the influence with prior convictions.
