Calcutta HC seeks affidavits from Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek over July 21 rally
The Calcutta High Court has ordered Trinamool Congress leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee to submit affidavits in response to a contempt petition. The petition alleges that the party violated a 2018 court order by completely blocking arterial roads during their July 21, 2025, Martyrs' Day rally. The court previously mandated that public gatherings must not obstruct traffic, especially for emergency vehicles. The next hearing is scheduled for August 17.
