Bill Gates has issued a stark warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence and called for government regulation of the technology. In an exclusive interview aired in full on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday (27 September), the Microsoft co-founder said AI could drive events on a catastrophic scale. "AI is certainly powerful enough to drive events that cause a billion deaths," he said. He added that the greatest threat came from malicious actors. "Even though it's pretty hard to get to 100 per cent, there's never been a weapon as powerful as the combination of people with ill intent using the latest AI tools."
