When actor Shwetha Menon resigned as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) less than a year after taking charge, it became clear that Malayalam cinema's much-promised institutional reform remains far from complete. Shwetha's remark — that she was unwilling to be a 'puppet' — is perhaps the most telling commentary yet on the state of AMMA.
