More than 100 people have been killed after a gold mine collapsed in the Central African Republic (CAR). On Tuesday (18 August), a landslide in the village of Zamboye, near the Cameroon border, caused the low-tech artisanal gold mine to cave in. Eyewitness footage shows a slope collapsing onto a crowd of people, as others at the site fled to safety. The death toll is likely to rise, said Bertrand Be Yangué, a member of the Zamboye youth council, with many people still missing and others trapped under the rubble. Authorities had launched an investigation into the incident, local media in CAR reported.
