The government has refuted claims of a nationwide satellite-based tolling system replacing FASTag by May 2025. Instead, an "ANPR-FASTag-based Barrier-Less Tolling System" will be introduced at select toll plazas. This hybrid system combines number plate recognition and FASTag for automatic toll deductions, aiming to reduce congestion and travel time, with penalties for non-compliance.
