In recovery, Stephen Knight, a former meth addict, learned that people often delay or forgo substance abuse treatment because they cannot find safe housing for their pets. Since then, his nonprofit, Dogs Matter, has provided foster care for more than 1,200 dogs while their owners focus on their sobriety.
