Four ambulances belonging to Hatzola Northwest’s fleet were firebombed in an antisemitic attack outside a Golders Green synagogue at around 1.40am on Monday. The fire is being treated as an ‘anti-Semitic hate crime’ and counter-terrorism police are investigating, the Met Police said. Two men, aged 47 and 45, were arrested this morning on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, which is leading the investigation said: ‘We have been working around the clock since this appalling attack took place and this has led to these arrests being made this morning. ‘This appears to be an important breakthrough in the investigation, but we’re also mindful that CCTV footage of the incident suggests there were at least three people involved. {"@context":"https:\/\/schema.org","@type":"VideoObject","name":"Burnt out volunteer ambulances following antisemitic hate crime","contentUrl":"https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2026\/03\/23\/213757322914778010\/480x270_MP4_213757322914778010.mp4","description":"The Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime, with CCTV showing three individuals setting light to an ambulance in the early hours of Monday morning.\n\nThere were no injuries reported in the attack on the Jewish community ambulance service, Hatzola, in Highfield Road, Golders Green, north-west London, around 1.45am, and no arrests have yet been made.","duration":"T17S","height":270,"thumbnailUrl":"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2026\/03\/23\/09\/107343277-0-image-a-4_1774256765211.jpg","uploadDate":"2026-03-23T09:05:06+0000","width":480} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page window.addEventListener('metroVideo:relatedVideosCarouselLoaded', function(data) { if (typeof(data.detail) === 'undefined' || typeof(data.detail.carousel) === 'undefined' || typeof(data.detail.carousel.el_) === 'undefined') { return; } var player = data.detail.carousel.el_; var container = player.closest('.metro-video-player'); var placeholder = container.querySelector('.metro-video-player__up-next-placeholder'); if (placeholder) { container.removeChild(placeholder); container.classList.add('metro-video-player--related-videos-loaded'); } }); Burnt remains at the crime scene following an arson attack on Hatzola volunteer ambulances (Picture: Vuk Valcic/ZUMA Press Wire/Shutterstock) ‘We fully recognise the local community will still be concerned and our investigation very much remains active and we will continue to work to identify and seek to arrest all of those who may have been involved. ‘I’d like to thank the public and particularly the local Jewish community in the area for their continued support and reiterate our appeal to anyone who might have information that could assist with the investigation to get in touch with us.’ Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing in North West London said: ‘We know that community concerns remain heightened and I want to reassure the community that an enhanced, bespoke policing plan and activity, which is particularly focused around vulnerable areas right across London, will continue over coming days and weeks. The fire is being treated as an ‘anti-Semitic hate crime’ and counter-terrorism police are investigating (Picture: PA/PA Wire) ‘This includes specialist officers and capability being deployed alongside local officers to help protect certain locations and will also involve highly visible armed police patrols to serve as a deterrent to anyone seeking to cause our communities harm. ‘I must stress that these are precautionary and not in response to any specific threat, and we continue to work alongside our colleagues in Counter Terrorism policing to support their investigation. ‘We will also continue to work closely with local communities and our partners to listen to their concerns and respond to these.’ Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk.
