Too often as patients age, doctors pile on prescriptions. The practice, known as polypharmacy, can be dangerous at any age but it’s particularly hazardous for elderly people, from raising the risk of dementia, heart and blood pressure problems to being groggy or unsteady, increasing the risk for falls.
