Tax panel may consider lowering GST on online food delivery fees, report says

The GST Council, chaired by Indias finance minister, may reduce the tax on food delivery charges by e-commerce platforms from 18% to 5%, effective January 1, 2024, according to sources. However, food delivery platforms like Zomato and Swiggy will not be allowed to claim tax credits. This follows a tax demand from Zomato.
