Sri Lanka's president dissolves parliament to make way for Nov 14 polls

Sri Lanka's newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has dissolved parliament to pave the way for a snap general election, scheduled for November 14. Dissanayake, a political outsider from the leftist National Peoples Power coalition, won the presidency on September 21, securing 5.74 million votes in a historic runoff against opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
