Salaries of nuns and priests in govt-aided schools are taxable: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court upheld the income tax department's decision to deduct TDS from salaries paid to nuns and priests working in government-aided Christian missionary schools, despite their vow of poverty. Dismissing appeals from dioceses in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the Court ruled that since the salaries are funded by government grants, they are taxable.
