Our universe might have an expiry date and it’s sooner than we thought

Scientists analysing fresh data from major space surveys say the universes fate may not be endless expansion. The Dark Energy Survey and DESI have revealed that dark energy — long thought to be constant — might actually change over time. A new theory proposes that a fading particle called the axion, coupled with a negative cosmological constant, could reverse expansion and trigger a collapse known as the Big Crunch. This could begin in 10 billion years and end the universe in about 33 billion.
