‘Nothing Wrong In It’: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor On PM Modi Gifting Bhagavad Gita To Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita along with several Indian cultural gifts, including Assam black tea, Kashmiri saffron, a handcrafted silver horse, a Murshidabad silver tea set and a marble chess set from Agra. Reacting to the gesture and HD Kumaraswamy’s call to introduce the Gita at all education levels, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said studying in English medium should not stop children from learning India’s epics. Tharoor stated there is no issue with students reading the Mahabharata, Ramayana and Gita in school. He added that giving the Gita in Russian shares India’s cultural and spiritual heritage and is not meant to convert President Putin to Hinduism.
