Nicolas Sarkozy's historic prison sentence

EDITORIAL. This is the first time such a heavy sentence has been handed down to a former French president. Sarkozy said he would refer the case to the European Court of Human Rights, putting him in the position of a former head of state who, having represented and defended France, is now seeking to have it condemned.
