New Cyberpunk 2077 game announced but not for consoles, PC or mobile

No release date has been given yet (UNIS Technology/YouTube) As fans wait for any updates on Cyberpunk 2, a spin-off game has been announced that most people will struggle to even find when it comes out. Since The Witcher 4 is CD Projekt’s current priority, that means Cyberpunk 2077 fans will have to wait a very long time for the eventual sequel to arrive. You might expect CD Projekt to try and take the edge off the wait with a smaller spin-off of some kind, which is precisely what they’re doing with the newly announced Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome Rush… sort of. While this is a brand new game, and not DLC of any kind, it’s not going to be available on consoles or PC and is instead a new arcade cabinet. Billed as a combat racer, Chrome Rush comes from Chinese company UNIS Technology, which specialises in arcade machines and has licensed the Cyberpunk 2077 IP from CD Projekt. The game has you sit on a replica of the motorbikes from Cyberpunk 2077, as you race through the setting of Night City, where you’re allowed to interfere with other racers by shooting at them or swiping at them with bladed weapons – just like Road Rash. There are seven characters to choose from, including the male and female versions of protagonist V. The rest look to be entirely original, which is a shame as Cyberpunk 2077 has plenty of established side characters you could fill a racing roster with. The game looks entertaining enough, but there’s so far no mention of a release date, nor where Chrome Rush will be made available. It’ll certainly launch in the US, but there’s no telling if cabinets will be shipped to arcades in the UK. This isn’t even the first Cyberpunk arcade game CD Projekt has licensed, as a lightgun game entitled Cyberpunk 2077: Turf Wars launched last year from Australian developer LAI Games, and distributed by Sega. The Chrome Rush trailer doesn’t even have comments underneath it and posts about it on the Cyberpunk subreddit have very little engagement. There was some suspicion that CD Projekt might have new DLC in the pipeline, to satiate fans, since it’s heavily rumoured that a DLC expansion is coming to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt later this year, to drum up hype for the sequel. CD Projekt hasn’t commented on The Witcher 3 rumours, but it did expressly rule out further Cyberpunk 2077 DLC just last week, telling one fan on X, ‘We have no plans for additional DLCs or expansions. If anything changes, we will inform you all!’ Fans do have a second season of the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime to look forward to, but its release date is as nebulous as Cyberpunk 2’s, as it was only announced last year with a teaser trailer. It will be 10 episodes long and a standalone story, rather than a continuation of the first season. The second season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners will also star a new protagonist (CD Projekt/YouTube) Email gamecentral@metro.co.uk, leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter.
