Inside Stillwater’s new unit, inmates say the prison feels transformed

Called an earned living unit, the Minnesota Department of Corrections is testing the concept at Stillwater where there's open space as the state transfers inmates to other facilities. Stillwater is set to close by 2029, and 60% of inmates already have been transferred. In two months, inmates, which must apply to the program, say the prison has been transformed and they are offered more freedom. Guards say there are fewer issues.
