India's edible oil demand to rise despite hefty import duty hike

India's edible oil consumption is expected to grow by 2%-3% despite a recent import duty hike. The increase in demand is attributed to the peak festival season and rising population. India, the world's largest importer of vegetable oil, sources palm oil from Southeast Asia and soyoil and sunoil from South America and Eastern Europe.
