India ready to get its first Buddhist Chief Justice as BR Gavai set to take oath today

Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai will become the 52nd Chief Justice of India. He will be the first Buddhist and second judge from the Scheduled Castes to hold this position. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath. His tenure will last until November 23, 2025. He has delivered nearly 300 judgments. The Collegium recommends the CJI based on seniority.
