HMPV Virus Cases Live Updates: Cases pile up in India; after 2 in Bengaluru, Guj reports first case

HMPV Virus News Live: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has confirmed two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka, the Union Health Ministry announced on Monday. The cases were identified through routine surveillance for respiratory viral pathogens. The first case involved a three-month-old female infant with a history of bronchopneumonia. Diagnosed at Bengaluru's Baptist Hospital, the child has since been discharged. The second case, an eight-month-old male infant with similar medical history, tested positive for HMPV on January 3. He is currently recovering. The ministry highlighted that neither infant had any history of international travel, indicating local transmission of the virus. HMPV, a respiratory virus, is known to circulate globally, including in India, with cases reported in several countries.
