Health body issues safety warning about commonly-used BP and heart medicines

Beta-blockers, used for irregular heartbeat and hypertension, can cause dangerously low potassium levels, known as hypokalaemia, according to the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission. This adverse reaction is rare but can cause serious complications. Elderly people and those using diuretics should be extra cautious. The alert is only advisory and patients need not panic.
