Govt spent over Rs 400 crore in 10 years to contest court cases

The central government has spent over Rs 400 crore on court litigations in the past decade, with Rs 66 crore incurred in the 2023-24 financial year alone. This amount has generally increased since 2014, except during peak Covid periods. A national litigation policy aimed at expediting case resolutions is under consideration, awaiting approval by the Union Cabinet.
