Gene Hackman has died, two-time Oscar winner had Everyman look

Gene Hackman, who brought an Everyman sense of reality, often coupled with a flinty menace, to the crowded gallery of characters he played during a long career that brought him Academy Awards for portrayals of an obsessed undercover narcotics cop in “The French Connection” and a sadistic western sheriff in “Unforgiven,” died.
