First-time asylum applications in the EU decreased by 17% in June, with Syrians, Venezuelans, and Afghans being the main applicants. Germany, Spain, Italy, and France received the majority of requests. Germany saw a 27% drop in applications amid stricter immigration measures. The Dutch government also imposed a moratorium on new asylum applications.
