ECI may go for routine SSR in Assam, not SIR ahead of 2026 polls

The ECI has held several rounds of internal deliberations to assess the feasibility of an SIR in Assam and to examine alternatives, ET has learnt. While an SSR is routinely undertaken before elections, the version planned for Assam may involve strengthened verification mechanisms, ET has learnt. In the past too, SSR has often come with intensive pre-revision exercises such as house-to-house verification.
