Dying pensioner tries to rob 95-year-old woman to pay for his funeral

A dying pensioner tried to rob a 95-year-old woman in her own home to pay for his funeral. Edwin Morrison, 81, of Manchester Road, Worsley, Greater Manchester, strangled his victim as he shouted, “Give me your money,” and then bound her hands together with cable ties. The retired pharmacy courier told his victim to "shut up" as she pleaded with him to let her go, as she said she could not breathe. His barrister, Nick Clarke, said his client wanted cash because he didn’t want his family to face the financial burden of paying for his funeral. Morrison was diagnosed with incurable kidney cancer in summer 2024 and told he would likely have less than two years to live. Morrison pleaded guilty to attempted robbery at an earlier hearing. He has been jailed for seven years.
