Direct tax collections rise 4.9%; advance tax up 3.9% in FY26 so far

India's direct tax collection for fiscal year 2025-26 increased to Rs 5.45 lakh crore as of June 19. The Income Tax Department released the latest figures. Gross collections saw a rise compared to last year. However, net collections remained nearly unchanged. This was due to a significant surge in tax refunds. Advance tax receipts experienced overall growth.
