Direct, indirect taxes comprise 66 paise of every rupee in govt coffer: Budget documents

For the fiscal year 2025-26, the Indian government projects that 66 paise of every rupee will come from taxes, with 39 paise from direct taxes and 18 paise from GST. Borrowings will contribute 24 paise. Expenditures include 20 paise for interest payments, 22 paise for states' share of taxes, and 16 paise for central sector schemes.
