Cyclone Shakhti incoming? IMD warns of intensifying storm over Arabian Sea; Mumbai under orange, Konkan on red alert

A brewing storm in the Arabian Sea has prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red alerts for parts of Maharashtra and Goa as heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected through the weekend. While no cyclone has officially formed yet, a low-pressure system off the Konkan-Goa coast is likely to intensify into a depression by Friday. Mumbai, already drenched by pre-monsoon showers, is under an orange alert. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing out, and widespread rainfall is forecast across India.
