Court ruling pronounced in keenly-watched case of MCD staffer whose policy lapsed for no fault of his own

A consumer court has ordered LIC and MCD to pay Rs 4.8 lakh, plus Rs 60,000 for compensation and litigation expenses to the family of a deceased cleaning staff member. The court found both parties responsible for failing to inform the staff about the consequences of unpaid premiums, leading to a lapse in insurance policies.
