Despite its evident importance to the economy, a sector that has been clouded by problems is the fertilizer sector. Apart from the fact that it impacts the lives of a large number of farmers, the sector is critical for two more reasons. One: Because India imports a lot of fertilizers. And two: It is critical for food production and hence food inflation. So, an important sector from all perspectives. This is not to say that efforts have not been made in the past to put an end to the troubles of the fertilizer sector. But it is still work in progress. Now, the question is: Will this budget bring it closer to a possible turnaround?
