Central govt employees can take VRS after 20 years but full assured payout will be given only after 25 years of service under UPS

The Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare has notified new rules for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) under NPS, allowing central government employees to opt for VRS after 20 years of service. However, full assured payout is available only after 25 years; those retiring earlier will receive pro-rata benefits. Other retirement benefits, including gratuity and leave encashment, remain accessible.
