Call issued to save an iconic piece of Mumbai food history as oven deadline looms over Irani cafes

Former Maharashtra BJP corporator Makarand Narwekar has called for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to exempt Mumbai's Irani cafes from a ban on wood-fired ovens, suggesting heritage status be granted. The Irani Bakers Association fears the ban could disrupt the supply of pav essential for vada pav and affect Mumbai's culinary tradition.
