Budget 2025: Cutting slab to tone up manufacturing

The revamp is focussed on a simplified eightslab tariff structure, a single surcharge on customs tariffs, and a strict two-year window for customs authorities to finalise provisional assessments. The budget also proposed to exempt thirty-five additional capital goods for EV battery manufacturing from the duty, reducing customs duty on open cell to 5%, while increasing basic customs duty on flat panel display from 10% to 20%, striking balance between domestic industry needs and international trade obligations.
