Awareness is key for success of functioning of legal aid mechanism: SC

The Supreme Court has emphasised the importance of awareness for effective legal aid, urging visible displays of legal aid contacts in public places. It directed NALSA and state authorities to ensure efficient legal aid access for inmates and advised governments to support legal services. Courts are to inform convicts about free legal aid for higher appeals.
