A new study has uncovered a thriving ecosystem in Floridas stormwater sewer systems, revealing that alligators, raccoons, and dozens of other species use the underground tunnels to navigate urban areas. Researchers set up motion-activated cameras in Gainesvilles sewers, documenting 35 species, including reptiles, birds, and mammals. Many animals use the tunnels to avoid busy roads, while some, like bats, even roost inside.
