Ad-hoc judges can be appointed to deal with criminal cases in HCs: SC

The Supreme Court has suggested appointing ad-hoc judges in high courts to address the backlog of criminal appeals. High courts including Allahabad, Karnataka, Patna, Rajasthan, and Punjab and Haryana face severe pendency. It proposes partly modifying the 2021 judgment to enable ad-hoc judges to act alongside sitting judges.
