About 10,249 acres of defence land under encroachment: Govt

Out of around 18 lakh acres of defence land in India, about 10,249 acres are under encroachment. Defence Minister Sanjay Seth informed Parliament, sharing state-wise details. The government also addressed queries regarding defence land leases to private entities, some of which are under encroachment. Leases are historically managed under various cantonment codes and regulations.
