The United Arab Emirates is preparing to back the US and allies in reopening the Strait of Hormuz by force and is pushing for a UN resolution to support such action, potentially becoming the first Gulf state to enter the conflict. It is reviewing roles including mine-clearing and has suggested US control of key islands such as Abu Musa, claimed by the UAE but held by Iran.
