ISE, Mie — A ritual ceremony of carrying timber to Ise Shrine in Ise, Mie Prefecture, was held in the city on Sunday and Monday, in preparation for 2033’s “Shikinen Sengu” — an ancient ritual tradition of completely rebuilding the Shinto shrine complex and transferring the deities to the new shrine once every 20 years.
