There is this dialogue that keeps repeating in Netflix’s latest docu-drama, The Bombing of Pan Am 103: “The debris is spread over 850 miles.” FYI, on the night of December 21, 1988, a commercial plane en route from London to New York exploded about 60 miles outside Glasgow, over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing all 259 people on board and 11 people on the ground—a total of 270 lives—in what would come to be known to the world as the Lockerbie tragedy. The scale of the crime scene was extraordinary: investigators ultimately had to search an area of roughly 845 square miles for evidence.
