Microsoft is taking steps to reassure its workforce about the broader societal and environmental value of its computing infrastructure, even as artificial intelligence (AI) expansion complicates long-term climate targets. Citing an internal communication, Bloomberg says that Cloud Operations and Innovation head Noelle Walsh addressed growing staff inquiries regarding power consumption, water demands, carbon output and the direct footprints that these massive server campuses leave on nearby neighbourhoods.
