Macron pays homage to late scholar and Resistance fighter Marc Bloch, who joins Pantheon
The French president remembered the historian as a 'man of the Enlightenment.' After the Nazis occupied France, Bloch joined the French Resistance in 1943. Arrested in 1944, he was tortured under the authority of the Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie. On June 16, 1944, Bloch was executed by the Nazis, crying out 'Vive la France!' as he was shot.
